Villa Marie is undeniably a beautiful hotel. The rooms are elegant and tastefully designed, the public spaces (particularly the pool and bar areas) are exactly as you would see them on the website. Unfortunately, the service in Villa Marie is terrible. The staff (from the manager down to the reception ladies) is unfriendly, bordering on rude. Some may say that unfriendliness is a French characteristic, but I disagree. I have stayed in hotels in the south of France and Paris of the same class as Villa Marie and experienced truly friendly service from staff members who are approachable and eager to please. It is a shame for such a beautiful hotel to be complimented by such terrible service.
