A one night cruise on the
Kerala Backwaters of the Alleppey, this cruise is one of the most popular cruises offered. Alleppey, an exceptional coastal township, is a network of lakes and lagoons and canals crisscrossing each other. It’s nearness to the Arabian Sea has given Alleppey a special place in the maritime history of Kerala. Alleppey has often been referred to as the Venice of the East by travelers from around the world. The beach of Alleppey, which is also called Alappuzha, has a 140 year old pier which extends up to the sea. In the stormiest of nights, this sea shore has provided a safe anchor to sailors from time immemorial. The cruise takes you through the clear waters of the prominent Punnamada Lake – the venue of the legendary Nehru Trophy snake boat race. You can visit the 400 year old Champakkulam church, one of the 7 churches established by St. Thomas. The Chavara Bhavan, located 6 km from Alleppey, is another interesting place to visit. The ancestral home of the Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the Chavara Bhavan houses the legendary 250 year old beacon of light – preserved intact in its original and primitive form. After spending the night at the romantic Vattakayal Lake, you sail back to Alleppey and disembark.

Built in typical Kerala architecture, this temple has the paintings of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu engraved on its inner walls. The deliciously sweet palpaysam (milk desert) made here as daily offering to the gods attracts huge crowds. The ‘velans’ (sorcerers) perform Pallipana every 12 years in this temple. This temple was the first to host “Ottanthullal”, a satiric art form by the poet Kunchan Nambiar.
